I did a thing.

Hey Friend! If you have a Turkey Trot, Gobble Wobble, or any other Thanksgiving themed 5K coming up in your area, this is for you! But first, I have to celebrate yesterday!

For the past 8 years, I have had the honor to chair a fundraising event called “Cooking On The Square” for our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. This event is 26 years old and is like no other. We shut down the streets on our courthouse square from 11AM until 1PM and have a cajun themed party for a purpose! For $25 guests get a hand-thrown pottery bowl plus all-you- can eat cajun fare and dessert. It’s the best!!! We had over 3500 people show up yesterday and raised enough money to fund a home for a deserving mom and her three kids! How awesome is that?!? Yay God for His provision!

This was taken during setup, two hours before the event started.

Now for the turkey running. Every year for the past 11 years, we have sponsored our local Turkey Trot that supports our YMCA. We serve hundreds of small cups of Rehydrate (Orange and Fruit Punch flavors) at the finish line as well. Years ago I used to run this race, but about 7 years ago I decided my running days were over. Then Ike (my 10 year old) started running cross country this year…and wants to run the Turkey Trot 5k. He can’t run it alone and his older brother has no desire to run it (Will prefers to limit his running to up and down the basketball court). What’s a mom to do?! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I strength train 5 days a week and “walk” on my elliptical 1 day per week. I didn’t even know if I had what it takes to complete a 5k (and we live in a hilly area!). So today, in spite of my sore muscles from yesterday, we gave it a shot. And even though we (a.k.a. “I” - Ike just chose to slow down to stay with me) were a bit slow, we jogged an entire 3.1 miles!!!

Post run (jog). Who knew?!?

This taught me a big lesson on the importance of consistent exercise. I never do more than low impact cardio interspersed with moderate weight lifting, yet I was able to run a full 5k without any training. This is why we take care of our bodies and focus on being strong! I have no desire to begin running again (my knees would hate me if I did it all the time!!) but it feels so good to know I can make a memory with my boy. No doubt when he is old enough to run on his own he will run it in half the time and I will be cheering him on from the sidelines!

So if you want to tackle your own Turkey Day race, here are the products I recommend (and use): Spark , Arginine Extreme and Catalyst. In the days when I ran often I used O2 Gold (and sure wish I would have had it today!)

Here’s to big goals and unexpected positive challenges!

Be Real. Be Reasonable. Be the Example.

Your Friend,

P.S. The mystery was solved! Have you tried the yummy NEW White Grape Peach Spark?!
