Common Questions: Protein Intake

“How do I increase my protein intake, without increasing my fat intake?” This is a common question I get and (good news!) it has a simple, easy answer. Greek Yogurt. Well, actually “egg whites” would be another answer, but Greek Yogurt has so many more fun options!

Two years ago, I purchased my first tub of non-fat Greek yogurt, from Aldi of course, and made this post:

My only regret is not trying it sooner!

What followed this post was 97 comments! Granted, one comment said, “Open. Clean out the container well. Fill with M&Ms.” 😆 but many of the comments were filled with great ideas.

After some trial and error myself, here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy Nonfat Greek Yogurt:

  1. To replace sour cream: on/in potatoes (baked, mashed, etc.), on top of chili, on taco salad, on/in tacos/burritos…endless possibilities.

*The trick to using it in place of sour cream is to sprinkle it with a bit of salt.

  2. Mixed with a scoop of BodyLean Protein. Sprinkled with a few mini chocolate chips.

  3. Mixed with frozen berries (any type) that have been thawed. Add 0 calorie sweetener to taste. A light sprinkle of cinnamon takes it up a notch.

  4. Mixed with dry ranch seasoning (only Hidden Valley will do, IMO) to use as a dip for raw veggies (peppers, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower…). It’s also good on hearty crackers, like Triscuits (my fav).

  5. To replace mayo in potato salad, egg salad, chicken salad…all the salads, except maybe jello.

  6. Swirled with honey and nuts or granola, or both. This is a great dessert or afternoon snack.

  7. Tzatziki sauce. This Greek condiment is one of my favorites! TJ & I ate lamb gyros in Santorini once that not only had tzatziki sauce but also FRENCH FRIES…heaven on earth.

Please note: we are dressed like this because the airline lost our luggage! We rotated between these “airplane” outfits and an outfit purchased on the ship until our luggage arrived at our port in Croatia!

As you can see, GY can be enjoyed as a sweet or a savory. I’m sure as soon as I hit send I’ll remember a few more ways that I use it! The key to remember is to buy the nonfat version so while you’re increasing your protein choices, you’re not accidentally exceeding your fat choices.

Do you have a way you use Greek Yogurt that I didn’t share? If so, reply and let me know!
